Many people would love to try piloting a light aircraft, but naturally feel apprehensive taking that first step into the cockpit. The answer is a Soloflight Flying Gift Card.
Accompanied by a Qualified Flying Instructor early fears are soon dispelled
together with many of the myths and legends, in a local experience lasting at least one hour. The Instructor will afford you every opportunity to manoeuvre the
aircraft around the s
ky for yourself and this often includes the actual
take-off. This first flight will earn you a personalised flight certificate signed by the
Instructor and may be credited towards your own pilots licence, although one
lady of 90 years from Hull
was satisfied to have earned her colourful souvenir!

Is it hard to learn to fly?
No. People of all shapes and sizes, ages and abilities have learned to fly.
It’s fun, and from the beginning of your training, you get to do most of the
actual flying! On the practical side, while flying isn’t a difficult skill to
learn, you’ll have to be willing to stick with it until you meet all the
requirements. Also, you should consider the cost of becoming a pilot - you’ll
have to pay for your medical examination and your lessons.
Yes. A well-built and well-maintained aircraft flown by a competent and prudent pilot is as safe or safer than many other forms of transportation.

Subject to a short assessment flight such as the Flying Gift Card with the Chief Flying Instructor, Soloflight will guarantee the completion of your pilots licence course within 50 flying hours. Any further flying required for completion being absolutely free! Ask at the office for details.
National Private Pilot Licence is only 32 hours. Full details of both courses are available on request.
Of the 45 required hours a minimum of some 10 hours are SOLO. The average time to achieve first SOLO being from 15-20 hours. Not too important as some “solo” earlier and some later and often depending upon the right weather conditions at the time.
Flying cross country navigation exercises are also part of your syllabus and
therefore do not be surprised if in the course of training you fly a trip to France for
lunch with an Instructor and other students. Take a look at the Flying Visits page for some ideas.
Many BUSINESS TRIPS are undertaken by students and Club Pilots during training and many members regularly fly themselves across to France and Germany on day trips of value to their company and home in time for dinner. Two or three flying together privately, regularly undercut normal Airline costs and utilise smaller airfields closer to their business destinations avoiding totally, the frustration found at large airports.
You might guess that Student Pilots age in range from 13 years to 60. There
is no minimum or maximum age restriction on beginning the course. Flights can be logged no matter what your age, but won't be counted towards the minimum requirement until age 14. The “first
solo flight” can be achieved at 16 years of age.
A current medical certificate is the only requisite to holding a pilots licence.
Nine out of ten qualified pilots hire and fly their friends in a four seat aircraft. They can legally share the costs of hire. A quality four seat aircraft such as the Piper Warrior affords you every confidence to fly any three of your friends or family upon the completion of your course. Typically, four may fly to France for a day or weekend at a total hire cost of £95:00 each.
Currently, hire of the aircraft costs £99:00 per flying hour with the Instructor £25 per hour inclusive and includes pre-flight briefing time in class. Completion of your PILOTS COURSE all conducted on a four seat Piper equates to approx. some £6,500 including the multi-Choice ground exam papers. These multi-choice exam papers take their questions from five interesting training books, supported by various videos available to watch here at Soloflight. We also offer ground school instruction for the written exams.
The real academic requirements to earn your Private Pilots Licence have always proven to be common sense and an enthusiasm to learn to fly.
Once you have gained your Private Pilot Licence, you may go on to fly the “complex” single (retractable undercarriage, larger engine), 6-seat twin-engine aircraft, learn to fly by instruments or at night.
