The popular seaside resort of Trouville in Normandy celebrates its mackerel catch and pays homage to its fishermen during this traditional weekend celebration of the sea, known to locals as the FĂȘte de la Mer et du Maquereau.
The first day is devoted to wining and dining, with a variety of mackerel dishes served to the accompaniment of sea shanties. The second day's proceedings are more solemn, including a mass for those who have died at sea and the laying of a wreath on the port's memorial. In the afternoon, visitors can enjoy rides around the bay on the fishing boats, decked in flowers for the occasion.
